Dr. Esra Suel

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

Esra Suel is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Information Architecture, ETH Zurich. She obtained her PhD from Imperial College London and continues her research there at the Urban Systems Lab. Her current research focuses on modeling behavior in the context of urban mobility and health. In particular, she is interested in developing computational methods for integrating large digital data sources (images and mobile phone) with smaller yet semantically richer data sets.

Esra completed her PhD in 2016 where she investigated mathematical modelling of decision making to study shifting patterns of spending and mobility with the increasing use of online shopping through combining heterogeneous data sources. At the Urban Systems Lab, she was also involved in multiple EPSRC, EU, governmental and industrial projects, where her role focused on application of mathematical modelling and statistical learning methods.

She holds a BSc degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University (Istanbul), and an MSE degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, specialising in automotive market modeling and environmental policy analysis.
